On June 15, 2017, seven members of the Brighter Brains Institute visited Mother Givers Humanist School in the small village of Buhanga.
The group included Karen Zelevinsky (BBI President), Werner Haag (representing Atheist Community of San Jose), Hank Pellissier (BBI founder), Bob Pellissier (a generous contributor), Carol Lloyd (BBI Board member), and Tallulah Pellissier Lloyd and Zenobia Pellissier Lloyd (the daughters of Hank and Carol). We were guided to the village by Masereka Sebastian - Secretary of the Buhanga Women.
The group was visiting/inspecting all the BBI projects in Uganda - they saw about 15 projects in 5 days.
It took about 1 hour to hike up the steep trail to Buhanga, where the BBI visitors were greeted with lovely vistas and exuberant hosts.
Brighter Brains Institute members toured all the BBI projects in the town -
- Future Path Classroom
- Pellissier Science Classroom
- chicken farm (we hear there’s now 620)
- water pipe funded by Darren Muise
- Reddit/Atheism water tank
- Girls Changing Room (sponsored by Bradley Banks)
- our sponsored orphans
- Buhanga Women Microfinance (sponsored by Karen Zelevinsky)
- and much, much more.
We were unable to see the Pumpkin Project because it is situated on property much farther up the hill.
We gave them many presents - school supplies, food, toys, solar chargers donated by a high school physics class in Piedmont, California.
We saw two classrooms being constructed by Friends of Buhanga - Australia, and many trees this group planted.
BBI had a wonderful time visiting - we were fed lunch (chicken and rice), we played with the children, we met members of the Buhanga Thuligahuma Women’s Association, and we took many photos (below)
