Scott Furciniti Purchases Kikoy Dress for Ugandan Orphan

Posted: Tue, March 10, 2015 | By: Kasese Humanist Primary School

Scott Furciniti has purchased a Kikoy dress for an orphan girl. The garment will be sent to an orphan at either COISER orphanage in Jinja, or Nyakiyumbu Widows Orphanage School.

Here’s how the Brighter Brains Institute project evolved: BBI originally sent $1,000 to Bwambale Robert of the Kasese Humanist Primary School; he used these funds to employ two tailors in Kasese (Mr. Safari and Ms. Amina Nyasubiri). They purchased the fabric and sewed up the dresses.

The dresses + shipment were paid for by generous contributors (like Scott) to BBI’s GoFundMe campaign. Donors paid $12 per dress; this amount refunded BBI and contributed an additional $4 per dress to the Kasese Humanist Primary School. The innovative, grass-roots, low carbon footprint campaign was almost 100% funded after 2 weeks.

Twenty of the lovely dresses were delivered to orphan girls at the Nyakiyumbu Widows Orphanage, in the Rwenzori. Others were shipped to COISER Orphanage in Jinja.

Brighter Brains Institute thanks Scott for his generosity!

The kikoy dress design can be viewed in the happy photos below:
