Nayakiyumbu builds Grasshopper Trap - thanks to Bob Pellissier

Nyakiyumbu Widow Orphanage Humanist School has built a Grasshopper Trap - to trap the winged insects that fly in vast hordes through their area 2-3 times per year.

The grasshoppers are extremely delicious, cooked lightly in oil, and salted. BBI staff members have sampled this delicacy and we’re looking forward to eating more when we visit the region in June.

The trap was funded by Bob Pellissier, a generous donor to BBI causes.

How does it work? There is a bright light in the center that the grasshoppers fly towards at night; once they are inside the contraption, they can’t see their way out.

Yum Yum Yum! Thanks Bob for supporting this project.
