A GoFundMe campaign launched by Brighter Brains Institute has reached its goal - $800. The money will be used to promote Critical Thinking workshops in Ghana and Nigeria.
The campaign reached its goal in 5 days - thanks to all the wonderful donors.
The Critical Thinking workshops are designed by Leo Igwe, the Nigerian humanist - his method is called “iDOUBT ”. The workshop has already been taught 20 times, in Uganda, Cameroon, Nigeria, and The Philippines. It has encouraged hundreds of participants to be skeptical of dangerous superstitions and religious beliefs. A few of the superstitions critiqued are:
Will Mount Cameroon explode if an albino is not “fed to the volcano god” ?
Are Bakonzo witchdoctors lying when they say they can make the tribal soldiers bulletproof ?
Is praying for rain to the Christian or Muslim god, a total waste of time ?
Does “child sacrifice ” truly produce quick wealth?
Students who let their pens and pencils ‘sleep’ in a church or mosque , instead of studying for exams - is this effective?
The Critical Thinking workshops in Ghana will be facilitated by David Osei - a teacher who has previously written reports on the “witch camps” in northern Ghana. The workshops in Nigeria will be facilitated by Abdulrahman Aliyu, a writer for BBI who also helps distributes food, clothing and blankets to the Almajiri boys in northern Nigeria.
Thanks again, generous donors!
