Building is progressing on the “Dr. Bruce Chou Classroom” at BiZoHa - the world’s first atheist orphanage.
Doctor Bruce Chou, an anesthesiologist from California, donated $1,000 in April. His classroom will accommodate up to sixty students.
The orphanage is near Lake George, in Kasese province, in western Uganda. It is situated on 7 acres of land that straddle the road connecting Fort Portal to Kasese. Nearby towns include Kahendero (a fishing village) and Muhokya.
Local communities are thrilled to have an orphanage there, to shelter the children that have no parents to take care of them. The region has one of the highest orphan rates in Uganda - an estimated 13% of all children.
Many of the children lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. Others lost their parents to violence, or other diseases, or the children were abandoned due to poverty. One of the orphans who will be placed at BiZoHa had his father - a fisherman - killed and eaten by a crocodile.
BiZoHa orphanage thanks Dr. Bruce Chou, for the generous heart he has extended to our project!
The orphanage also wants to have a clinic, guest houses for volunteers/tourists, soccer field, recreation hall, laboratory, and vocational skills workshops.
