Brighter Brains Institute is looking for Humanists in Haiti to direct Projects

Posted: Mon, June 04, 2018 | By: Haiti

Brighter Brains Institute is looking for Secular Humanists in Haiti - who can partner with BBI in projects there. We are also looking for potential (French-speaking) volunteers and donors who would like to help us operate there.

Haiti is an ideal place for BBI activities.

The Caribbean nation is impoverished - even poorer than Uganda (where most of BBI activities are located). One chart lists Haiti’s per capita income as $1,800—and Uganda’s as $2,600. Only 22% of Haitian children advance to secondary schools, and - in many rural areas - 45% of the population is illiterate.

BBI would like to operate in the northern part of Haiti, by the historical city of Cap-Haitian (Haiti’s second-largest city). This area is apparently safer than the capital of Port-au-Prince, and it receives far less international aid.

What does BBI want to do in Haiti? A wide variety of options exist:

1) we could support a Secular Student group at the University of Haiti, in Limonade: King Henri Christophe campus.

2) We could support literacy at a secular school (if we can find one - Haiti is extremely Catholic).

3) We could provide microloans or startup funding for small projects.

If anyone wants to assist in projects in Haiti, please email brighterbrainsinstitute@gmail.com
