Brighter Brains Institute has provided $500 in start-up funding to the Ruti Women Roadside Vendors - a group of women who sell produce and weavings by the side of the road near Mbarara.
The funds will be used to buy pineapple from farmers at a wholesale price. The purchased fruit will then be sliced up and sold for twice the original purchase price. Profits will be used to fix the corrugated tin sheets that serve as the roof of their stall. Profits will also be used to provide education to their children.
The budget and a full length description of this project by the Ruti Women Roadside Vendors is here: https://www.brighterbrains.biz/projects/pineapple-project-ruti-women-roadside-vendors
Funds for the group were donated by two generous Board members of the BBI.
BBI is funding numerous $500 projects at this time. Previously, funds went to a Joy Women Group handicraft project, a Buhanga-Thuligahuma Women’s Association weaving project, and a rabbit-raising project directed by teachers and tutors at Pearl Vocational Training College.
Future startup funding will be delivered to Nyakiyumbu Widows Association, and the Sister Sisters Collective in Cape Coast, Ghana.
