BBI provides $1,800 in Microfinance Funds to Kanungu Women’s Empowerment Centre

Posted: Tue, August 15, 2017 | By: Women

Brighter Brains Institute has donated $1,800 in funding to the Kanungu Women’s Empowerment Centre - a women’s group located in Kanungu, a small town near the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The funds will be lent in microloans to selected members of the 24-member women’s group, at a 0% interest rate, for 6 months.

This is BBI’s third major donation to the Kanungu area. In May, we donated $1,200 to Kanungu Humanist School, to purchase food for the children. In June, we donated $500 for the parents of children enrolled at the school to start a community garden (that will soon be harvested).

Many of the women in the Kanungu Women’s Empowerment Centre are mothers of children enrolled at the school. BBI’s goal is to assist our humanist partners in Kanungu in becoming self-sustaining.
