Brighter Brains Institute is expanding outside of Uganda, to assist humanist organizations and schools in other nations of Subsaharan Africa.
In Kenya, a Czech Republic non-profit called “Center Narovinu” provides aid to an impoverished community with 70 orphans, via their “Island of Hope Humanist School”, described below:
Rusinga Island is a small island in Lake Victoria region in the western part of Kenya with about 22,000 inhabitants; nearly half of them are children under the age of 15. It is a very poor area where most people make their living by farming and fishing. Diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, AIDS, typhoid, parasitic illnesses, etc. along with malnutrition and the lack of health care present a huge problem resulting, among other things, in an increasing number of orphans.
Brighter Brains Institute has provided a small amount of funding for the community center’s library - our goal in the future is to provide additional funding for a project that economically sustains the community, perhaps in agriculture or fishing. BBI might also assist them in locating orphan sponsors.
