Fundraiser in San Francisco, to help Orphanage School and LGBT rights in Uganda

Posted: Tue, October 11, 2016 | By: Humanism

Brighter Brains Institute is having a fundraiser in San Franciscan November 12 - the event will be a BBQ Dinner, with drinks, and a silent auction, to raise funds for two Uganda groups.

Brighter Brains Institute is an SF Bay non-profit that promotes humanist activities in the SubSahara.

Funds collected will help:

Rays of Light Orphanage School in Kyarumba needs lunch food for the children and a brick classroom. (Orphans are the “poorest of the poor” in Uganda, generally eating only one meal a day, and often denied entrance into schools because they can’t pay the meager tuition and buy uniforms.)

Freedom and Roam in Kampala - this Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (LBT) organization needs funding to advance gay rights in Uganda and to provide health services. (LGBT in Uganda are persecuted by the government and religious groups. The Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2014 proposed life imprisonment (with clauses for death) for same-sex relations.)

Dinner will be Barbecued Chicken, Salad, and African dishes; intoxicating beverages will also be available.

Auction will be artwork, Ugandan items, and gift certificiates donated by local merchants in North Beach.

A Freedom and Roam film will be shown, plus a slide show on Rays of Light Orphanage school and other projects by the Brighter Brains Institute.

Lutzka Zivny and Phil Millenbah are the hostess and host, with help from Carol Lloyd, Hank Pellissier, Zelda Zivny, and multiple teenage assistants.
